Description

Originally designed for Team USA and the 1995 Mountain Biking Word Cup (Vail, CO), the backpack made for an easy transition between races with enough room for bikers' helmets and shoes. In 2016, we took a modern spin on the vintage World Cup rucksack, building room for laptops, smartphones, chargers, sunglasses and more. A versatile pack, it's an even better partner for those looking to move easily between the trails and the office. With a top opening zippered main compartment, front panel expansion pocket, top lid fleece-lined zippered pocket, front panel bungee attachment and D-Ring attachments points, the World Cup has enough room to fit everything from biking gear to office essentials. The side mesh pockets work well for biking shoes, water bottles and laptop chargers. Load it all in as the side access laptop compartment and interior organization make it easy to stay organized for both work and play. Additional features include a removable 1.5" waist belt, interior hanging pocket and sunglass holder, internal hydration sleeve with hose port, and an Airmesh backpanel. Thanks to the use of CORDURA fabric, the World Cup offers all of this in one incomparably durable bag.To bring you peace of mind for your investment, Mountainsmith offers a lifetime warranty on their products. For a modern take on a vintage adventure bag, the World Cup is your most versatile solution.

I've had my eye on this backpack for 2 years, and finally pulled the trigger on the purchase. So glad I did. I love this backpack. It has everything I love about a backpack all in one. Several pockets for small things, multiple large pockets for large things, a laptop storage sleeve, and a water bladder holder as well. The zipper grip tags are oversized and easy to use. It is super comfortable, and it can basically transform from a large overstuffed backpack to a slim tightened up day pack with ease. I'd gladly recommend this brand to anyone I know looking for a good backpack. How often does one buy a backpack? Once every 10-20 years? How many miles will I log with this one? Thousands. When my old North Face backpack crapped out (bad zippers, etc) after close to 20 years of travel around the world I actually did a good bit of research, bought about 2 other backpacks and this one is close to perfection. First, it's durable. Second, it is laid out really well. The side pocket for a computer? Pure genius. The top zipper means that you can really pack this thing hard and not worry about zippers coming undone at the sides. The front pocket is huge and I really don't mind that there's not a zipper (something else to go wrong) on that one. The top pocket is super soft inside and perfect for glasses. The side pockets will even fit my size 12 sneakers, one on each side if necessary. And it's not too heavy. It's not a featherweight, but certainly not too heavy when you consider the durability and padding. I'm not a frequent reviewer, but I love this backpack. It took me awhile to get the right one. If you travel a lot and like to pack an extra pair of shoes, couple of days of clothes, computer, etc. this is the ticket. And, it fits under an airplane seat or in the overhead bin very nicely. There are no downsides, although I would like the front pocket to secure better but the pros far outweigh the cons, and there's couple of nifty internal zippered pockets, plenty of safe places for your passport, etc. The guys at Mountainsmith thought this one out well. It's also built much much better than a TNF Borealis, or a lot of the the North Face packs.Worth every penny. Durable and travels wellPurchased to replace a 20 year old book bag. Used it as my personal carryon for a flight and then for day hiking in Glacier NP in September 2017 and it was very comfortable. Bag material appears durable and the zippers are of high quality. Encountered some light rain and snow on the trip and everything stayed dry but would want a rain cover for extended or heavy rain. The side pockets hold a large Nalgene water bottle with ease, as I don't use a water bladder. The outside back pocket was perfect size to carry a Canon T6 camera with 18-135mm lens. Since that trip, it has become my everyday carry bag. Laptop pocket takes a 15" windows laptop. For me it is the ideal size to carry some spare clothes (work necessity) as well as sunscreen, rain jacket, snacks, etc. The top strap is the perfect width and easy to grab and carry for quick transportation without putting the pack all the way on. Overall the bag fits my needs for everyday use and occasional day hikes.First off this backpack looks and feels great. The cordura material feels rugged and all the stitching and zippers look and feel very sturdy. I started my search looking at brands like Osprey, Northface, Kelty, Fjallraven and came across this backpack after months of searching and reading reviews/watching youtube videos and googling a bunch. I decided the Mountainsmith World Cup was the best fit for my bike commuting and hiking/everyday use needs. The front pouch can easily fit my helmet or shoes, both side mesh pockets can fit my 40oz hydroflask easily, the bungee in the back is great for holding jackets and whatnot, and with all the straps and d-rings I'm sure I'll have plenty of places to secure almost anything I want to bring. The padded back of the backpack is very comfortable and the mesh looks very breathable. The straps are thick padded and as a large framed man who is over 6' tall this backpack fits great. Although this is my first Mountainsmith product I am very impressed and would highly recommend this bag to all my friends.I take this to/from work every day. I've used it a bit for day trips as well, but it's mostly a replacement for an 11 year old Swiss Army bag that disintegrated. This bag is well built, seems robust, and has comfier straps. Inside space is ample. A little narrower front-to-back compared to the prior bag, but adjustable and not a limitation. Laptop pocket well padded, but I added some more foam anyway due to compulsivity.Seems to repel rain a little, but not extensively tested this. Zippers seem very robust. I like the side pocket size. Unloaded, it isn't too heavy. Material seems very tough.I estimate it will last at least 8-10 years. I'd buy it again. It's well built and marginally cheaper than other options I've considered. It's also much cheaper than a quality leather bag by orders of magnitude, but does 100% of what I need regardless.Constructed with good material. Love the side opening laptop sleeve. The backpack itself is a bit heavy. Used it on a couple of hikes in Scoltland and also as my carry on and it worked very well. I found I needed to tie a knot on each of the waist belts otherwise they pull through the stopping mechanism when cinching the waist belt tight. Not sure what the loop on the upper left shoulder strap is for but it’s so high up it’s pretty much unusable since it’s so ha rd to reach. The right side shoulder strap loop is for a hydration sleeve tube but the nipple of my hydration sleeve is too large to fit into the attachment points further down the shoulder strap. Overall it’s decent and made of quality materials but some of the design features are confusing. As to be expected from Mountain Smith, the quality and features are amazing. Only issue is the laptop compartment. Unless you have a super thin 15” laptop like a MacBook Pro, you’ll have a slightly tight fit.
